Did You See That? March 31st 2009

Today’s Did You See That is a bittersweet one for me! We’ve chosen the patterns of Lorri Birmingham to show you today. What we have in stock is all that there is, as Lorri has stopped designing hardanger and cross stitch. All of her patterns are true works of art, as well as easy to follow and fun to stitch.

Remember, if you come in any time between the 31st and April 6th and tell us you read it on the blog, you get a 15% discount on what we’ve mentioned here today. Just call, click, or our favorite, come in and see us!

Stitching News and Notes, March 30, 2009

Hey Everyone,

We hope your weekend treated you well, welcome to this week’s Stitching News and Notes! Two lovely new designs from Needle Delights Originals came out late last week:

This is Emerald, and the other one by them is called Sierra. These are both counted needlepoint designs. New in cross stitch is 3 Black Cats from CherryWood Design Studios:

Check out this really cool stocking we got in late last week:

It is by Treglown Designs. I can see all sorts of possibilities with different fibers and stitches with that piece!

Did you know that we offer canvas taping and fabric serging at no cost to our customers? We want you to be able to get right to stitching on your piece! Don’t forget that we have the All About Stitching trunk show coming next week, and that we have a class with Jill of Danji designs coming up in April as well. Please call or email us soon to be included in the class, as limited spaces are available. We hope to hear from you soon.

In other news, we learned this week that Randy, our beloved framer, is closing his shop and moving. If you have any pieces that you wanted him to work his magic on, he says he can take them up until the end of this week. If you know of another reputable framer in the area that is familiar with needlework, please let us know! We will miss Randy terribly, but wish him well in his move.

Don’t forget to come back tomorrow for our latest “Did you see that”!

Hey Everyone,

Friday brings something new and wonderful we want to share with you. These two beautiful designs from Just Nan arrived earlier this week. Both are limited edition pieces, so you will want to make sure to come in or call and reserve yours today.

Harmony is the first of the two pieces. This is one of the prettiest ones I think I have seen from her.

This is the matching tin. We have very limited quantities of each of these pieces, so you’ll want to get in touch with us as soon as possible. Have a great weekend!

Beads, beads, glorious beads!

Hey Everyone,

Today we’d like to cover a topic that we get asked about frequently: how to attach your beads! There are nearly as many ideas on this topic as there are colors of beads, I think, so we’ll just share with you our thoughts from those of us that frequent the shop.

Vicki attaches her beads with two ply of floss to match the bead color, and only goes through the bead one half stitch. She also makes sure that she is very secured on the back so that none of her beads get loose and run away!

Dorothy uses a different approach. She uses 1 ply of nymo floss, again securing well on the back, and attaches in the same way as Vicki, with a half cross stitch. Sharon uses this method as well.

Some directions for attaching beads to a project say that you should go through the bead with a full cross stitch. There is nothing wrong with this approach, but we have found that attaching in this manner will sometimes not allow the beads to sit fully upright.

Remember that if you are having trouble with beading your projects, you can always schedule a session at the shop to see our tips and tricks first hand. Feel free to give us a call!

Did You See That?

Hi Everyone,

Welcome to our new feature, Did You See That? Let me give you a bit of background on why we started this new twice a week post. Dorothy loves to rearrange things in the shop when she has a new idea about how to put a theme together, or when we have empty holes in the main racks. Every time she does, she finds a few things that most of us have never seen before. We figured that if we haven’t seen it, chances are good you haven’t either. Here’s the fun part: for one week after this post publishes, you get 15% off anything we feature here, but ONLY if you tell us you read it on our blog. Since we will be posting Did You See That on Tuesdays and Thursdays, that means you have from Tuesday to Tuesday, and Thursday to Thursday. Here are the first Did You See That specials:

All Dolly Mamas cross stitch kits are available at 15% off this week. These kits include pattern, floss, and Aida cloth.

Chicklets kits are also on sale this week. Like the Dolly Mamas, they include pattern, floss, and Aida cloth. Don’t forget to tell us you read it on the blog! This offer is good via email, phone, and of course, dropping in to see us!

Stitching News and Notes, March 23, 2009

Hey Everyone,

Just a few things we wanted to let you know about today! First, Stitching News and Notes will be a new regular feature here on the blog, so you will want to bookmark this page. Look for this feature every Monday.

Vicki wanted me to pass along that she is updating the web page today, and getting ready to send out a newsletter either this evening or tomorrow. Also, please remember that we do offer individual one on one lessons for hardanger, cross stitch, and needlepoint. Please call us at (760)737-3113 to set up an appointment if you need help.

There is a new feature that will debut tomorrow that you are going to want to check out. We’re calling it, “Did You See That?’. Check back in the morning to see what you may have missed the last time you were in to visit.

Nora Corbett is at it again!

Hey everyone,

Look what my favorite designer, Nora Corbett, is up to now!

Meet Lilac. I can’t get over how very pretty she is!

She is sharing the runway with her friend Lily of the Valley. Neither have made their way to us just yet, but you can call, click, or come in to place an order for these lovely ladies, along with any of their friends. We happen to have Jasmine and Holly in stock right now, and can order the others for you. Don’t forget to let Vicki or Dorothy know how you’d like to handle your deposit!

A Stitcher’s Christmas Update-Week 2

Good morning Stitchers!

Just wanted to give you an update again on my Stitcher’s Christmas piece. I have gotten in another 5 hours for a total of roughly 10 1/2 hours. As you can see, I am making lots of progress. It really is a fun stitch and the fabic we chose is perfect for it! I don’t know if you can see the sparkly but it is an opalescent fabric and so is very sparkly! I really like doing this one section at a time. It makes me want to do a happy dance every time I finish a day!

So, I got to the Nine Bags of Buttons and the suggestion that I could maybe chose my own buttons. Boy does that sound like a plan! No counting and no stopping and starting to stitch random buttons! I am also thinking that there are a few Mill Hill treasures that come to mind to place and there is also all the Just Another Button Company buttons to choose from…. so many choices! I love being able to make my project three dimensional with things!

Well, that is all for now. Happy stitching everyone – and remember Christmas is just 9 months away!

Finished Pieces!

Hey Everyone,

We have a couple of finishes that were shared at the All Day Stitch that we wanted to show you!

Shirley finished her Sulpher Crested Cockatoo:

Tahnia finished a really cute Lizzie Kate pattern we have featured on the blog before:

Remember, tomorrow is our update on Dorothy’s piece Stitcher’s Twelve Days of Christmas. See you then!
