Picture from the Alex Class

We all had so much fun the past two days.  We laughed and stitched, such good friendships and fun times.  Alex is a great teacher and has such wonderful ideas.  He is very helpful with colors and suggestions as to which stitch would make your piece pop.  Thanks Alex for a wonderful weekend.

I took some pictures of the pieces as some of the ladies were leaving.  I missed a few and I apologize that theirs will not be shown.

Alex threads

Some of you may wonder why we get so excited about Alex coming to town – well it isn’t just because we love to see him! He brings some wonderful threads for our stash from Europe.

So in the first shot, you can really just see the bags here but Oh My! the colors! and the feel…. The silks especially!

So many colors and these are not small skeins of thread. I just love to run my hands through the silk threads. It is like a rainbow exploded in here!

So here are some  pictures of some of the colors and fibers that we all have added to our stash.  Don’t worry he will be back in November with more fibers and a new upcoming class.  We will be unveiling that project in the next couple of days.

Here’s the pictures:

Friday – Sorry No Update

Sorry I don’t have and update today.  Last night several things happened and we didn’t stitch, so I have no pictures for you.  I promise I will have some for you on Monday.  With the Alex class this weekend and some of us are stitching tomorrow evening I will have pictures to share then.  If you are in the area tomorrow and want to join us please feel free to come by.  You will probably need to park in my parking lot off the alley way as Crusin’ Grand will be happening.  Hope to see you tomorrow.

P.S. Don’t forget that you can come buy and enhance your stash this weekend because Alex will be here with his lovely duffel bag full of threads from Europe.  We will be at the shop on Sunday and Monday.

Living Faith, Hope, and Grace

I wanted to introduce you to a designer that I actually met a few years ago.  He is very nice young man and his sister.  They were showing his charts in Nashville.  I was very impressed as they are rather special and different designs.  They have designed a cross for each month of the year.  I have seen the models and they are truly beautiful.

I just recently ordered several of them.  I am including all the pictures of the crosses.  I hope you like them as much as I do.

Chatter

I’m in a chatty mood today, so please bear with me.  I want to take the time to remind you of the upcoming Stitch ‘n Pitch.  I would like to be able to turn in all ticket requests by the end of next week , July 3rd.  Just to remind you the game is on July 19th.  It should be a fun day at the ball park for all that attend.  Good friends, stitching and a ball game what more could you ask for?

Several of you have made suggestions for the blog and I appreciate that.  I am keeping a list and will work on those ideas for you.

I have been really busy at home with Brandon being out of school for the summer, well kinda.  He has summer school and trying to get the house in shape for Alex.  He will be staying with us and well I am not the best house keeper in the world,  I would rather stitch.

I started a class on Adobe Fireworks yesterday at Palomar College with Ginia.  I hope to be able to learn enough to do some special things on the web page in the future.  Oh but there is homework, not used to that stuff anymore, at least not for me.

I finally figured out to leave a project at the shop and work on another one at home.  That way I can maybe get two done and it is so much easier than hauling it back and forth every day.  So the shop piece is my Seasonal House and the home piece is Mystery X from Chatelaine.  I actually feel like I am making progress for a change.

Well enough chatter from me for today.  Tomorrow I will try and get something more useful posted for you.

Organizational Skills

Since we talked a bit yesterday about stash, today we will go into organizing things.  “How do you do it?” is one of  the most asked questions.  I don’t know if I have all the answers cause everyone will have their own ways that fit them best but here are a few ideas.

Threads – Cotton

  • I like floss away bags, placed on a ring and in numerical order.
  • Floss box with floss on the bobins is another way except that bobbins can leave kinks in the thread
  • You can go to a hardware store and get the plastic bins  used for nuts and bolts and lay them side by side or the Container Store has some excellent boxes
  • DMC Floss binders and Stitch bows
  • Slip and Stitch

Threads – Silk

  • Floss away bags- just don’t seal them all the way as silks need to breathe.
  • A free standing Jewelry or Lingerie (fancy underwear) cabinet that has lots of little drawers

That is just for orgainizing your fibers. As for your patterns, I (Dorothy) use 3-ring binders and page protectors. Most pattern books will fit into the page protectors. I then organize them by subject and/or designers. I have two 3″ binders for my Mirabilia patterns!

Well, the only other thing I can think of is Q-snaps and stretcher bars. Mine are all in drawers (not together!) I have started using a sharpie on my stretcher bars to label them with what size they are – this does not work for Q-snaps however! Those are just tinker toys to play with when you need the right size! Vicki started this post but I got to finish it since she left for class, so that is all for today!

Have a great day everyone!

Stash – It’s Great

One of  the reasons there is “Stitcher’s Treasures” is because of my stash.  My husband looked around one day and said why don’t you do something with all of this stuff?  I, of course,  asked what would you suggest.  Well that is how it all began.

Today I have more stash than I had before and that doesn’t include all the items at the shop.  He created a monster and didn’t know it.  Now I see more at the shows and as a avid stitcher ” I want it all”.

I was sitting at home yesterday and contemplating what I wanted to start or pickup again.  The choice should have been to pick up again but I just got a new pattern in by Living Faith, Hope and Grace and couldn’t resist it.  Thanks Leslie for enabling me.  It is suppose to be  the other way around.  It is a red, white and blue cross.  Most of you that know me, know that I sucker for anything patriotic.  So here I am with another project.

Back to stash, I think that my favorite stash item is threads.  I love to just sit and fondle them and look at all the wonderful colors.  Next has to be hand dyed fabrics and then painted canvas.  Oh my, where do you stop?

So, let us know what you favorite stash items are.  This could be fun.

Friday Update

A few of us stitched last night.  It was a bit quiet but with the events of the last two weeks it was really nice.  Tim and the kids stopped by and they are doing well.

Here are the pictures from yesterday and last night.

Talk to you next week.  Have a great Father’s Day weekend.

Thoughts from a Fellow Stitcher

I received this note from one of our stitchers and she asked me to post but wishes not to be named.  Thanks for your thoughts, it is very comforting to know that I am not the only one who has these feelings.

“Thoughts from a Fellow Stitcher”

When I’m feeling down or unsettled, I spend time in my stitching room.  It’s all mine and it gives me comfort.  Sometimes I stitch, sometimes I organize my many projects and wonder how am I ever going to finish them all!  And sometimes, I just sit.  With the events of the past weeks, I’ve found myself in my room on several occasions.

I started stitching 16 or 17 years ago.  I’ve always had a very small stitching circle.  Stitching is something I do for relaxation and often stitch alone.  What I’ve come to realize is that over time my small stitching circle has widened.  It includes very caring and thoughtful friends.

And now when I look at my projects, I see more than the materials.  I see the friendships woven in all of them.  I remember when I bought this piece or that.  Or the help I received in selecting stitches or threads.   I remember the conversations at the all day sessions or at class.  Or just dropping by on Saturday and spending a few hours stitching with friends.

I am very thankful to Vicki for having such a warm and inviting shop.  It’s wonderful to have a place to be able to drop in and be welcomed.  I love walking in the back door, never knowing who you will find there or where the conversation will lead.  And I’m grateful for a home away from home and the wonderful individuals I’ve come to know.  Each and every one of you is special and unique.

Thank you for all you’ve given me.

Stitch ‘N Pitch and Other News

There are several of us that will be attending the Stitch ‘N Pitch on July 19th.  The Padres will be playing the Colorado Rockies at 1:09 pm.  It should be lots of fun to be able to go to the game and join other stitchers for an afternoon of  two favorite pastimes, stitching and baseball.  You can bring your family members if you like.  The cost is $21.oo a person and we will receive a special Stitch ‘N Pitch bag and all children under the age of 14 will receive a Padres Hot Wheel.  You can read more about it on the website at http://www.stitcherstreasures.com/StitchN’Pitch.htm .

For all of you that love to stitch Mirabilia and Passione Ricamo there are two new mermaids out.  I have just put the pictures up on the web page.  We will be getting those in soon but if you want to make sure that you don’t miss out you can pre-order.

Saturday we are having our last do or die Alex catch up class as he will be here the following weekend.  I hope that you can join us.  Also if you are planning on attending Alex’s class please let me know so I have a head count.

Father’s Day is this weekend and I plan on spending it at home with 2 of our three children and my hubby.  I hope you all have similar plans as it is so important to spend time with you loved ones.
