Since we talked a bit yesterday about stash, today we will go into organizing things. “How do you do it?” is one of the most asked questions. I don’t know if I have all the answers cause everyone will have their own ways that fit them best but here are a few ideas.
Threads – Cotton
- I like floss away bags, placed on a ring and in numerical order.
- Floss box with floss on the bobins is another way except that bobbins can leave kinks in the thread
- You can go to a hardware store and get the plastic bins used for nuts and bolts and lay them side by side or the Container Store has some excellent boxes
- DMC Floss binders and Stitch bows
- Slip and Stitch
Threads – Silk
- Floss away bags- just don’t seal them all the way as silks need to breathe.
- A free standing Jewelry or Lingerie (fancy underwear) cabinet that has lots of little drawers
That is just for orgainizing your fibers. As for your patterns, I (Dorothy) use 3-ring binders and page protectors. Most pattern books will fit into the page protectors. I then organize them by subject and/or designers. I have two 3″ binders for my Mirabilia patterns!
Well, the only other thing I can think of is Q-snaps and stretcher bars. Mine are all in drawers (not together!) I have started using a sharpie on my stretcher bars to label them with what size they are – this does not work for Q-snaps however! Those are just tinker toys to play with when you need the right size! Vicki started this post but I got to finish it since she left for class, so that is all for today!
Have a great day everyone!
I have several ‘plastic’ cabinets for my patterns – sorted by soon, not so soon, eventually, and maybe never but I want it anyway.
My floss used to be all rewound on the little cards nicely labeled and files by number/maker… not anymore. I waste enough time ‘not stitching’ while fondling fibers to use even more time by wrapping the stuff. It’s Floss-A-Way bags for me on rings by number.
The balls and bulkier fibers have drawers space with dividers.
